Incoterms for Sea and Inland Waterway Transport
These four Incoterms 2020 rules are exclusively for sea and inland waterway transport:
- FAS - Free Alongside Ship (named port of shipment)
- FOB - Free On Board (named port of shipment)
- CFR - Cost and Freight (named port of destination)
- CIF - Cost, Insurance and Freight (named port of destination)
Important: These rules should NOT be used for containerized cargo. For containers, use FCA instead of FOB, and CIP instead of CIF.
These rules are suitable for:
- Bulk cargo (grain, coal, oil, etc.)
- Break-bulk cargo
- Non-containerized goods loaded directly onto vessels
- Inland waterway barges
